Ifafa means Sparkling One in Zulu. Shaka arrived at a place with beautiful views over a lagoon where
the river meets the Indian Ocean. Shaka named this place Ifafa – or “place of
the sparkling waters”. Visit this area to discover what delighted Shaka. Paddle up the lagoon and estuary, exulting in nature’s displays
between the low cliffs and dense coastal forests or drive up to the two
notorious lookout points to view the whales and dolphins at play. Ifafa offers
holiday makers quiet beaches and beautiful bays with a tidal pool. But here fishing is what most visitors come for. There is a
plentiful supply of karateen bait for fisherman and seven dams in the area
provide excellent bass. If you come unprepared, rods and boats can be hired for
fishing expeditions. Spear-fishermen rate Ifafa point as a wonderful reef on
which to watch out for sharks and game-fish and the size of these creatures are
subjects which enhance the folklore of the area.
