PENNINGTON

Pennington name was derived from a land surveyor s fond memory of the 'Old Country' and much criticised by certain historians and newspaper commentators of the day, who believed all these frontier districts should retain their traditional Zulu names This area developed with the railway's arrival in early 1900, followed 15 years later by construction of a rudimentary whaling station at its northern extreme. Pennington offers long, lazy days on tranquil beaches, surrounded by some of the finest remaining coastal forests, endowed with an abundance of wild flora and fauna. In addition to beach bathing and surfing along the coastline, snorkelers have some magnificent sites at Rocky Bay, Kelso, Umdoni Point, Ifafa and Elysium. If angling is your pleasure, there are plenty of opportunities to catch a big one either deep-sea, off the rocks or in the surf. An ideal venue for offshore wind-surfing, jet skiing and para-gliding is Bazley Beach.
